aaaaaand it's my turn
Woke up feeling super achy and with a bad headache. Koen was congested all night so I know it's starting for him too. Off to the doctor with him this afternoon. Ugh. Will this ever end?!

sick
It has been a rough week! Last Friday all night Landon was coughing and we had to do multiple breathing treatments for him. On Saturday Shaun took him to the pediatric clinic because he had a fever and I could tell he was having breathing issues. The doctor who saw him said his oxygen levels were fine and that we should just continue with what we were doing. That night things progressively got worse...the tylenol just wasn't taking down his fever and the breathing treatments didn't seem to help at all either. So I took him to the ER. Poor guy, I think he's been to the ER/hospital more in his almost 3 years then I have been in my entire 30 years of life!
At the ER they found he had a double ear infection, which I guess happened to show up sometime after his appointment that day! The doctor said there is nothing that makes a doctor look like an idiot than an ear infection, because it can not be there one minute and show up later in just a short amount of time! They also gave him some steroids to try to open his air passageways. We got home around 11:30pm and all went to bed.
On Sunday Natalie started getting sick - fever and bad cold. Shaun started feeling icky on Monday.
Landon's cough has been really bad every night, even with the breathing treatments and any kind of home remedy I can think of (going in a room with steaming shower, tea with honey, vicks on his chest and feet)...finally yesterday I took him to the doctor again after another VERY rough night of coughing every 30 seconds to a minute (seriously don't even know how he can sleep at all!). They found his ear infection STILL there (even though he'd already been on antibiotics for 4 1/2 days) and also tested positive for Influenza B. Poor buddy. The doctor gave him four different prescriptions -- a new antibiotic for the ear infection, another steroid to continue to open the air passageways, acetaminophen with codeine to try to knock him out and take away his cough for the night, and tamiflu (which is used to try to calm the effects of the flu virus). The doctor he saw yesterday said she wishes they would've tested Landon at the ER on Saturday night since it works most effectively when taken in the first couple of days of flu symptoms showing up. But we're going to try it anyways. She also gave some for Koen, since it is also used to try to prevent the flu, and it is such a highly infectious virus. Koen is so very young to get it - so PLEASE pray that he does not!!!
I came home and told Shaun to go to the urgent care to see if he had it too. Sure enough, he tested positive for influenza B as well! Ugh. He is not supposed to go in public until he has had no fever for 24 hours without the use of medicine. So he went to Walmart to pick up his meds with a mask on! Ha!
I talked to the pharmacist and she recommended I ask the boys doctor if she could order a prescription of tamiflu for me as well since I am around it already and most likely will get it. This way I can hopefully avoid it. SOMEONE needs to be well enough to take care of all these sickos!
Thankfully Natalie seems to be doing much better, so I think she's just fought through it. She no longer has a fever, just the lingering effects of a cold.
It has been 7 days now of this sickness...and we most likely will be house-bound until the end of the weekend so we don't spread this any further. Prayers would be much much much appreciated!!!

sledding!
After recovering from our colds at the beginning of the month, we finally took the kids sledding! We bought a cheap sled at Walmart, bundled up, and went to the local park for some fun! Koen stayed in the car (parked right by the hill) all bundled up in his carseat, although he wasn't too keen on missing out on all of the fun!
I got a good workout pulling the kids back up the hill on the sled!
Daddy's turn!

christmas in canada
Here's another late post about Christmas! But it must be documented since it was such a special time! :)
On the Monday the 27th we left to head up to Abbotsford to be with my family for a belated Christmas. We were gone for 5 days/4 nights, and 2 of those days were all traveling...but it was SO worth it to be home after 10 months, to introduce everyone to Koen, and to celebrate Christmas together!
Such special memories made!...we sure missed you Chris, Julene, Tehya, Paeton, and Kenna!

Nat loved her new apron from Uncle Ben, Auntie Kari, and Lacey!
Koen got some loves from Auntie Kari!
Mimi and her 2010 babies :)
On Tuesday Shaun got to go to the Canucks game with Dad, Ben, and Chad. Canucks won 6-2! It was a great game.
On Wednesday Shaun was sick with an achy flu...yuck. We had been invited to Ben & Kari's for lunch, but Shaun wasn't very good company. We had fun anyways! :)

Lacey wasn't too sure about Daddy holding another baby!
Thankfully on Thursday Shaun felt much better! We took the kids and headed to visit Oma Friesen. She was so excited to see us and it was great to be able to introduce her to her 50-something-ith great-grandchild!
That afternoon we left to Stanley Park train to see the lights! We arrived hoping to go on the 5pm train and then go out for dinner. But when we arrived it was sold out until 8pm...so we did dinner first and then the train.

Sweet smiles for Mimi in the car...
On the way home (Friday the 31st) Landon got sick - he had a bad cough and had developed a fever on the plane from Seattle and I hadn't thought to carry any tylenol with me. In Denver I ran around like a crazy woman trying to find children's tylenol or ibuprofen for him...no luck. Finally I crushed up a third of an adult's tylenol for him...finally he started feeling better. Oh, and I was so very thankful we had thought to bring his inhaler (for his asthma) along.
This is what we came home to...it took Shaun a good 30 minutes to take the snow off and thaw the car out. Then we went home to sleep away New Year's Eve. :)

christmas 2010 recap
This is a few weeks late...but better late then never! :)
Christmas Eve day we decided to forgo naps and instead go to the afternoon Christmas Eve service at First Baptist Church, which is another church in town. We would have obviously loved to go to our (New Hope's) service but since we meet in a movie theater we couldn't have one on a movie night. The service was good...a bit long, but it was nice to sing carols, hear the Christmas story, etc.
After the service we decided to go out for dinner...I hadn't planned well in advance for a dinner at home. Most places were closed, so off to Applebee's we went! We came home and read the kids the Christmas story, and then opened stockings.

Christmas morning I was surprisingly awake feeding Koen around 7:15am, and Nat & Land were still asleep. Suddenly I hear a loud noise from Nat's room, and she comes running into our room, still rubbing her eyes, saying, "It's Christmas morning!!!" Her and Landon were so excited!

We had a yummy breakfast of waffles and vanilla pudding and had fun skyping with both sets of parents. The kids were thoroughly entertained playing with all their new fun stuff. After finally getting ready for the day, we headed over to our friend's (Matthew & Allison) house for dinner. The Alexander's (Rob & Sara) were there too. It was fun being together with friends who have become like family here to us in Durango. We just hung out, ate, had birthday cupcakes for baby Jesus, and wrangled the kids. :)
