Tomorrow...

...is the last day of March...which means we'll most likely have an April baby. I can't believe it! It's weird that I have been thinking March this whole time and now I have to "re-focus" my mind to think April. Crazy. Oh, and congrats Denise...looks like you'll be winning the Starbucks card! =) I've officially decided I am NEVER going to listen to a doctor when he/she says, "Oh, you'll probably have the baby earlier." Like they KNOW...

So tomorrow we are scheduled to go in to the hospital for a possible induction. Shaun and I have actually decided that unless the doctor deems it ABSOLUTELY necessary to induce, we aren't going to go ahead with it. We would both rather wait for this baby to come naturally, if at all possible--even if we are impatient and are anxious for this little one to arrive. Besides...the LATEST they'll let me go is next Friday (April 7th) so it's only 7 more days...which does seem like forever...but we don't want to "rush" God's perfect timing for this little one.

So...we're going to keep waiting...unless something happens.

If you DON'T hear from me tomorrow afternoon/early evening, most likely we are working out getting Baby Sawyer out. Otherwise...I'll be back.

Thanks for your prayers.

For all you obsessive bloggers...

No baby yet...

That's all for now.

...hope to be back with better news tomorrow...or the next day...or the next day...or the next...

Good night.

The Practice of Thankfulness...

Thanks, Lana...for the reminder that we must be thankful in ALL circumstances.

Ten things I am thankful for today...

1. For this child in my womb, who is being woven & spun perfectly...
2. For my wonderful husband who loves me and supports me...even though I can be whiney at times.
3. For my family...near and far away...who love and pray for us daily.
4. For a comfy place to life, and a shelter from the storm...it's been raining non-stop today! =(
5. For the Canucks win last night, of course!
6. For this "trial" we are going through--that the Lord loves us enough to want us to grow and trust in Him!
7. For all of my blog friends...near and far away...that are so encouraging to me in this time!
8. For the pineapple we bought yesterday...it is just SO tasty!
9. For every day we have to sleep in before Baby Sawyer arrives...
10. For the excitement that comes knowing that I get to see my dear sister in only 3 1/2 months!!!

Ahhh...I feel better already.

Dude, can I get ANY bigger?!?!?

Yes, I'm still here! I know some of you probably hoped that since I haven't blogged since Friday that I was in the hospital either giving birth or already with Baby Sawyer in my arms. No such luck...Baby Sawyer would like to make a grand entrance...he/she wants everyone on their toes waiting anxiously for his/her arrival! Well, Baby, I can tell you--it's working. You can come...NOW!!!

Yes, I'm getting anxious...I really don't feel like I can stretch any farther! I am now getting up at least 2 times a night to pee (which about a month ago I wasn't getting up at all) and I also have felt Baby kick my ribs, which I also hadn't felt up until this past week. I have a somewhat longer torso, so Baby must be getting EXTREMELY fat and large in there.

Anyways...we had a good weekend. I did major cleaning/nesting again on Saturday. I even vacuumed, hoping that it would bring on the labor. We went on a few long walks...still no luck.

This picture was taken yesterday afternoon (Sunday - 40 Weeks, 2 Days) at Debra's parents house. We went over for a yummy barbeque after church. Good times.

Today was my first day of not really working. It was wonderful! I've decided to only do a bit of follow up work since I can't really promise anyone that I will call them back the next day! Shaun and I had fun grocery shopping together and preparing dinner for his parents and Nate & Debra. They came over to watch the Canucks game, which was on TV down here tonight (since they played the Kings). Shaun also got to debut his new Hockey Jersey, which I gave him for his birthday. He is now officially a bigger Canucks fan than I am (is that even possible?!?! How cool is that?)...anyways...good times, and way to go Canucks!

Tomorrow I have plans to do laundry and...who knows what else. As far as I'm concerned it would be a GREAT day to have a baby. =)

Baby Sawyer at 40 Weeks...

Alright...back from the doctor's! I have made progress from last week--I am 1 cm dialated and about 50-60% effaced, which means that my cervix is thinning out. So I'm getting there...just not right at this exact moment. She said I could go into labor at any moment but I could also just slowly progress for the next few days.

She called the hospital and made an appointment for me to go in next Friday (the 31st) at 3pm. There they will check me and see if I am ready to be induced. She said if I haven't progressed or if my cervix is not "favorable" they could send me home again and ask me to wait a few more days!!! Ahhh...I sure hope this baby comes naturally before all that happens. Please continue to pray for this process.

Thanks for your encouragement and for being so excited about this with us! We can't wait to report our exciting news!!!

Yes, I'm still here...

Woke up this morning feeling fine...I CAN'T believe that today is 40 weeks for us! It has really flown by! I go to the doctor this afternoon for my 40 week appointment and most likely we'll discuss options for the next week. I've been feeling a large number of more painful Braxton Hicks the last couple of days, but they always subside and in the morning they're gone. Arg. If only it was the real thing...I guess it will be one of these days!

Anyways, I just wanted to let you lovely people know I am NOT in labor yet. And I will post my 40 week picture later this afternoon, after my doctor's appointment.

For now, here's a fun thing...

Healthy & Sturdy...

Last night we went out to celebrate Shaun & Debra's birthday's (both on the 20th). We ate at Wood Ranch, which is this TASTY barbeque place here. My meal was delicious--probably the best I've had in awhile.

I just wanted to post these pictures cause you can see how "healthy" I look (aka--chunky, chubby, fat, whatever you like to call it). My face is really chunking out and I am ready to get this baby out!

Okay, funny story...my family loves this one. When I was back in Abbotsford for the year between Multnomah & APU I worked at Envision Credit Union as a bank teller (which I loved, by the way). Every once in awhile we'd have casual "Jean's Day" on Friday. So this one Friday I was in my jeans, and one of our faithful clients, Mr. Rundle came in. Now Mr. Rundle is a farmer with only a few teeth left and just as many fingers left. He is a very sweet man. Anyways...on Jean's Day I was helping Mr. Rundle and I came back to my desk with his cash, and he said, "Kristal, you sure would make a good farmer's wife!" I smiled and said, "Why's that?" And he said, "Well, you look real good in a pair of jeans, and your nice and sturdy!"

Hmmm...nice and STURDY?!?!?!?!?!???!!!

I know he meant to be sweet and really meant it as a compliment...but what girl wants to be told she's sturdy? Anyways, my family won't let me live this one down. It's a good story.

For sure now I'm REALLY sturdy. And I'm okay with it (I just have to keep telling myself that)...only a few more days (or up to 9 more days) and I'll be holding a beautiful baby in my arms and I'll forget all about my healthy and sturdy look. Right?

I heart Braxton Hicks...

NOT! For those of you who don't know what Braxton Hicks are--they are the "fake" contractions that basically prepare your body for labor. I figured that's what must've been happening last night since I didn't get anywhere--thanks to those of you who commented with advice. I figured it was too good to be true! Too bad...maybe I can handle labor if that's what it feels like (they didn't hurt much at all)! =) I was having them about 10 minutes apart for about 5 hours but they didn't get any more intense or closer together, which means that they're fake. Lovely.

CONGRATS! to our friends Adam & Amy on the birth of Tatum Ann Ford on the 16th! She was 5 days late and she is adorable!!!

Just wanted to all of you know so that you don't have to refresh my blog every five minutes. At least not until tomorrow!

Oh, and I guess I'm not winning my own Starbucks card--today was the day I picked for Baby Sawyer to be born. =)

Big Day...

A few things to address today...

1. Happy 27th Birthday to my man! I love you SOOOOOO much!!! And don't worry...27 isn't THAT old! Besides, you get more handsome the longer I know you. AND...I can't wait to grow even older with you!

2. Happy 24th Birthday Debra! Yes, my husband shares his birthday with one of my best friends...isn't that crazy!?! Love you TONS girl and hope you have a VERY special day!

3. I was hoping that our baby would ALSO share his/her birthday with Shaun and Debra. I don't think that will happen...maybe tomorrow though. I've been having these weird cramps in my stomach every 10 minutes or so. I'm not sure if they're contractions though because I expected them to hurt much more. It just feels like my whole stomach is cramping really tight but it's not really painful. Just more uncomfortable. Do you think this is real???

4. We just got back from walking around City Walk in Universal Studios. We had a nice lunch there at the Hard Rock Cafe. It was nice. We were thinking about seeing a movie but there wasn't anything particularily good showing! Tonight we're going to go out for dinner (hopefully) with Shaun's parents. Should be fun!

5. I wanted to thank all of you for your comments...I have been SO surprised by the amount of people who have found my blog!
- Cindy Reid...how exciting that you too are expecting a little one this month! I checked out your blog and look forward to hearing about your new baby. Your girls are ADORABLE!
- Katie (used-to-be Stewart)...OH my goodness girl, it's been forever! I am so glad you found my blog! I will email you more when I get a chance!
- Lovella Schellenberg..thank you for stopping by! I hope you continue to read, and thank you for your comment!
- Annie...thanks for stopping by! I checked out your blog and you do look very familiar! Thank you for your blessings.
I just LOVE it that people are stopping by AND commenting. It means a lot to me!

Anyways...I'll let you know if more action happens...until then...happy blog reading!

Baby Sawyer at 39 Weeks...

Here's a shot we just took of Baby Sawyer at 39 weeks! Shaun says today my belly looks smaller than last week...which is weird...must be the clothes! Although I don't think my face looks any smaller. Oh well...almost done!

Went to the doctor today for our 39 week appointment. Still no progress--she said I'm completely closed up! She said the baby likes it too much in there! So it looks like I'll be around for awhile yet! We got to hear the baby's heart beat again, which is nice and strong (between 130-150). The doctor again commented on how long the baby is...I guess she's serious about us having a tall kid.

I know it COULD happen quickly but I am going to set my mind on March 31st, and if it comes earlier I will be surprised (I think Denise recommended this to me earlier...which I think is great advice at this point)! We have another appointment next Friday, the 24th, which is my due date...so we'll see if we've made any more progress by then!

After our appointment Shaun and I were talking and I mentioned that I don't know WHY we are so pressured to get this baby out...he/she is going to be here (Lord willing) for as long as we're here. So we just need to thoroughly enjoy our time here before Baby Sawyer comes. I'm just going to relax and see what happens. However, I would appreciate prayers that this baby will come naturally. Kaiser (our medical provider) doesn't let you go past 41 weeks, at which time they induce you. I hear that is a not-so-fun process. So if you could pray that it will happen naturally before March 31st...thanks!

I almost forgot...

Happy Birthday today...to my blog!!!

Today marks my one year of blogging on Canadian California Girl...just thought you should know!

It sure is neat to look back over the last year and see everything that we have been through. The LORD sure has been faithful and we look forward to what He has in store for us next!

Until the next blog update...

Our "Dress Rehearsal"

Still here...still kicking...well, the baby's the one that's kicking...

So last night we had a bit of an adventure! I'll call it our hospital "dress rehearsal." Last night Deb was over and we watched "Pride & Prejudice" (oh, SO wonderful). Good times. After she left we were getting ready for bed and I was going to the bathroom (sorry if this is TMI - too much information - for some of you!). Anyways, as I was peeing I felt cramping or pain in my abdomen, so I leaned forward to see if it would stop, but instead more fluid came out. Then it happened again. To me it felt somewhat "uncontrolled" which is one of the symptoms of your water breaking. I honestly couldn't tell if I was just peeing more that I asked my body to or if my water was breaking! So I told Shaun about it and I told him I didn't think it was a big deal since I wasn't really feeling any pain, but he said he would feel more comfortable if I called the advice nurse at the hospital. So I did. The advice nurse asked me a bunch of questions and said that they would prefer me to "swing by" to check me out and see if my water had in fact broken.

So we packed everything up...my suitcase, diaper bag, car seat...everything, and just put it in the back of the car! I had a STRONG feeling that we would be returning home in an hour or two so I honestly felt a little silly! Luckily, since it was midnight there was hardly any traffic on the freeways so we were able to make it down to the hospital in about 15 or 20 minutes.

We went in and I had to get changed into the lovely hospital gown, then they hooked me up to a contraction monitering machine as well as the heart-monitor/ultrasound for baby. We had to wait for around 30 minutes for them to monitor the baby, but they said everything looked good. Then they did a internal swab test to see if they could find any water leaking and the midwife also did an internal to see if I was dialated at all (lovely, by the way)! No such luck...no dialation, at all! I haven't felt any contractions at all, so I am not super surprised that I am not dialated yet. The midwife told me there was no way that my water could have broken if I'm not dialated. Well, duh! Sorry for even wondering! She honestly kind of made me feel stupid, even though the male nurse (who was the advice nurse who told me to come in) told me this happens all the time and they'd rather have us be safe than sorry. Either way I kinda felt ridiculous. But how are us first time moms supposed to know what everything is supposed to feel like???

They then let me get dressed and head home. All of the other nurses were really nice and said, "See you next time!" We didn't get home until almost 2am...ahhh...I was SOOO tired and VERY excited to be able to go to sleep in our own bed!

It's kind of funny because I had told Deb earlier in the evening that I hoped that it wasn't going to happen that night because I was too tired. How funny.

So I really feel this baby is NEVER going to come out. I have this strange feeling we'll be heading to the hospital on March 31st for an induction, which is NOT what I want.

I'll keep you posted.

Oh, Baby!

I thought I'd write a quick post to let you know that there is NO BABY yet for us...I know many of you are refreshing and reloading my blog to see if there are any updates. Not yet, however...

CONGRATS to my dear friend Shannon on the birth of her beautiful baby girl, Brianna! She was born on Saturday morning, after only 5 hours of labor! She is such a doll! It sure makes my pregnancy seem SO much more real. Check out Shannon's blog for pictures and info.

This weekend was good...got LOTS done! Friday night we stayed at home and played a game of Cribbage and just relaxed. Saturday morning I tried sleeping in again (we had been up past 1:30am the night before!) but no such luck! My body was awake at 8:30, but I stayed in bed until 10:30. I then spent the whole entire day "nesting"...I cleaned and organized everything in sight! The bathroom was scrubbed from top to bottom, the office/baby room was organized and re-put together, and our bedroom was cleaned as well! I just cannot handle "junk" right now! If we have not used it in the last week, we don't need it--so let's THROW IT AWAY!!!! Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit...if we haven't used it in the last month, we can throw it away. =)

After cleaning all day I finally showered at 7pm. Shaun's mom made a tasty dinner, but as soon as I sat down to eat it I felt NOT hungry at all, and really sick to my stomach. Which is wierd for me--I haven't really been nauseated at all during this pregnancy! I really thought I was going to barf, and for no reason! I laid on the couch for the rest of the evening with body aches and an rolly stomach. I thought maybe I was about to start labor...but nothing happened! I have no idea why I felt that way!

That night I slept WONDERFUL...I actually slept until 9:45am! I woke up feeling refreshed...we headed to church and then for lunch with Nate & Deb. We decided to go see a matinee, since we most likely won't be able to see any movies at the theater for awhile after the baby comes! We saw "Failure to Launch" with Matthew McConnaghey (McConnehottie, as I like to say--just to bug Shaun!) and Sarah Jessica Parker. It was pretty cute.

We had planned on going on a long walk after the movie (to try to get things moving!) but when we walked out of the theater it was pouring rain! We couldn't believe it...so much for that idea. So instead we went home and relaxed...I almost finished a blanket I am crocheting.

So today is back to work...ahhh...I can't wait until I can wake up and the first thing I think about is not "Oh my goodness...I need to check my voice mail and emails...I need to get to work!" I plan on only taking a few weeks off work to get into the schedule with Baby Sawyer. It'd be great if I could take more than that off but I am thankful that I do work from home and that I can stay home with Baby.

Please continue to pray for the job situation for Shauner...he's been in touch with a few churches, 2 of which seem quite interested. It just seems like SUCH a slow process and it feels like it will be forever before we even get anywhere.

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers...I'll keep you posted (of course).

Baby Sawyer at 38 Weeks...

Here's a shot I took today at 38 Weeks! I came up with a new word for myself...I'm not gi-normous... I'm gi-massive. I like it. It works.

I think tonight I felt a few contractions, but nothing regular...probably good ol' Braxton Hicks. It's crazy that sometime in the next 3 weeks it won't just be Braxton Hicks--it will be the REAL thing and we'll actually get to go get this baby out! How exciting!

Shaun and I just finished a game of Cribbage, and I think I'll go help myself to some Chocolate Ice Cream...my new craving!

Have a great weekend...

Pictures from our walk...

WARNING: Blog of Complaints

Tick...tock...tick...tock...

I feel like a ticking time bomb...

Today I've decided that I am officially ready for Baby Sawyer to arrive. Up until this point I haven't felt physically or emotionally ready...but now we have everything put together for Baby and we're just WAITING...

I KNOW I still have 2 weeks and 3 days left until my due date, so I don't need a bunch of comments about how it's unrealistic that I think Baby is coming early! And I KNOW being a first time mommy my chances are very high of being overdue. But...I'm ready. I didn't think I'd get to this point! My body is getting uncomfortable...I wish I could tie my own shoes...I wish I could sit like a lady again (instead of like a man with my legs wide open)...and I kinda wish I could start wearing normal clothes. Ahhh...the joys of the last month of pregnancy.

I'm sorry to be so whiny...just had to let it out.

Work is slow today and my email is down so I can't even finish working. Shaun and I are going to go for a walk to get some fresh air. Then maybe I'll go to the grocery store.

I'll try to come back with a "happier" post later.

More Baby Sawyer stuff...

Just got back from the Doctor's office...had to get blood work done for an Iron test. Lovely. My arm is bruised a bit. I guess I'd better get used to the pains.

At the last appointment I was tested for Group B strep. Today I was given the results--I am positive. Group B strep is basically a bacteria that I carry in my body (30% of women have it). Our baby is at risk during birth to be given Strep B if I am not put on antibiotics during labor. It' s not a big deal--since they know I have it they can now give antibiotics (through an IV during labor) to prevent the baby from getting it. The reason they don't want a newborn to be given GBS is because it can cause sepsis (an infection in the blood), pneumonia, or meningitis. Since they have confirmed I have it I was told I need to go into the hospital as soon as I start labor--if my water breaks or if my contractions are about 10 minutes apart.

The doctor said I've officially "dropped"...and that the baby is a nice size. She guessed he/she is about 7 lbs right now and that if Baby Sawyer makes it to full term he/she will be around 8 lbs. Big baby! She also said that our Baby is "long"...I guess in height Baby will take after Uncle Ben more than Grandpa & Grandma Sawyer. =) For those of you who don't know Shaun's parents--they're not very tall! The first time I met them was over dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory in Duarte. We had a great time and I love(d) his parents, but when Shaun asked me what I thought of them the first thing I said was, "They're short!" I hadn't meant to be rude--I had just assumed that since Shaun was taller (he's about 5'11") that at least one of his parents would be taller, too. Anyways...all that to say this baby may not be shorter. =)

So now the waiting game begins...it seems like Baby is going to be here SO soon but at the same time it is kinda going slow. Every day I wake up and think, "Is today the day?" The last couple of nights I have randomly woken up with a start--I've had to process my thoughts and try to figure out why I woke up...did I feel a contraction? am I feeling sick? or am I just uncomfortable? So far it's just been uncomfortable.

Well, enough about Baby for now...actually...that's probably all you'll hear about for awhile!

I should get back to work!

Baby Sawyer at 37 Weeks...

I've decided that I'll post a picture once a week now until Baby Sawyer arrives...since I feel like I get larger every day!

T
oday Baby Sawyer is 37 Weeks...and I am HUGE!!! I am officially "full-term" according to Baby Center which means that our baby "is developmentally ready to handle life outside the womb." I can't believe it! Every time I call my mom she thinks it may be me saying I'm in labor. I really don't feel ready yet...I don't feel like Baby S. is ready to come out. Well, maybe I'm not ready for the baby to join us yet. =) I can't believe that sometime in the next 4 weeks Baby Sawyer will be here with us.

Last night Baby Sawyer was sticking his/her butt out and so I poked at it. In return he/she punched me in the bladder. Lovely. I couldn't help but yelp out loud...silly little one!

That's all for now...have a great weekend!

Happy 23rd Birthday, Ben!!!

Today my baby brother is 23! Happy Birthday, Ben! Shaun & I love you so much and are so blessed to call you family!

What an exciting year you have ahead of you. We are so happy for you and Kari, and can't wait for you to officially start your life together. And you get to become an uncle for the 3rd time...how exciting is that?!?!?

Wish we could be with you today as you celebrate! We hope you have a great day! Oh, and Dad...take it easy on him at work today. =)

Love you LOTS!!!

A day closer...

Thanks AGAIN to everyone who posted for the Baby Poll. I can't believe we got so many responses. It is so awesome...and I can't wait to see who wins!

So did anyone see us on Deal or No Deal last night? I was actually hidden most of the time by the contestant, but Shaun was shown many many many times. Did anyone see??? We were over at Mike & Renelle's to watch it, along with Lost. Good times.

Today I went to Titus 2 Bible Study with friends, and then out for lunch with Deb, Sasha (Deb's sis-in-law and my new friend!), and Sierra (Sasha's friend, and my other new friend)! Sasha & Sierra both have 1 year old kids so I had a great time discussing baby/labor & delivery stuff. It's nice to hear about other experiences although they are all so different and sometimes horrific. =) I'm so curious and anxious to know how my labor and all that will be. I guess I will find out soon enough! I am SERIOUSLY freaked out though. I know that once I am "in the moment" I will be able to handle it and just do it (because I won't have a choice!) but still the unknown freaks me out. And I'm scared I'm going to throw up...how silly is that? I've heard some women throw up during labor and I HATE (WITH AN INTENSE PASSION) throwing up! I haven't thrown up since I was 7 years old! I sure hope that I don't now...

I'm just in the middle of my work day...waiting for clients to call me back that said they'd book today. Work has been a bit slower this week, which is okay I guess. It'd be nice to make some more $$$ before Baby Sawyer arrives.

Tonight Nate & Deb are going to come over to watch the American Idol results as well as Survivor. Us and our addiction to reality TV! It gives us something to do and we do have a great time spending time with our best buds!

Question to all you mom's out there...is there anything you REALLY recommend I pack for the hospital? Anything that I DON'T need? Shaun took out my suitcase today and threw some stuff in for me...how cute! He's really concerned we're going to have to leave at the drop of a hat and wants me to be ready. I plan on taking a shower, doing my hair, and shaving my legs when I go into labor and before we leave to the hospital. Baby Sawyer is going to see his/her mama for the first time ever--I gotta look my best, you know???

Alright...enough blah blogging for now...

Have a great night!
